We will capture the SLPP after the election” – S.M. Chandrasena

SLPP MP S.M. Chandrasena stated that the pro-president members of the SLPP will acquire the leadership of the SLPP after the presidential election. He added that there are around 100 MPs of the SLPP supporting President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and that therefore they would form an alliance under the leadership of Premier Dinesh Gunawardena after the victory of the president. He also emphasised that only a few members remain in the SLPP and that it is wrong if they claim the party.

Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Jeevan Thondaman stated that the estate companies have agreed to pay a basic wage of Rs. 1,350 to the plantation workers. He added that the final decision on the mechanism of paying the productivity allowance of Rs. 350 will be made by two weeks by holding discussions with the companies.

Praba Ganesan supports Sajith Premadasa

Leader of the Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) Praba Ganesan has signed an MOU with Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa to extend his support to Premadasa in the upcoming presidential election. Praba Ganesan stated that he has demanded of Premadasa that the 13th Amendment to the Constitution (13A) must be fully implemented and that 10 perches of land each must be provided to Hill Country people.

Wigneswaran refuses to support Ranil Wickremesinghe

Thamil Makkal Thesiya Kuttani (TMTK) MP C.V. Wigneswaran has rejected the appeal which was personally made to him to extend his support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential election. UNP MP Wajira Abeywardana made such an appeal to Wigneswaran by visiting him. In response to the appeal, Wigneswaran had expressed to Abeywardana that he and his party are to support the common Tamil candidate in the election.

Bopage places bond; inaugural rally to be held in Nugegoda today

Presidential candidate of the Jana Aragala Sandhanaya (People’s Struggle Alliance) Nuwan Bopage officially submitted his bond to the Election  Commission (EC) yesterday (13th). The deposit was made on his behalf by a party executive Dharmasiri Lankapeli. Speaking to the media, Bopage stated that theirs is the only programme in the country that will not take the same road as the IMF in order to resolve the issues of the country.

District leader of Puttalam for the NFF Jagath Priyankara also to support Ranil

SLPP Puttalam District leader MP Jagath Priyankara pledged his support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential election. The MP met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and informed the president that he will be extending his support to him. Priyankara is the Puttalam District leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) lead by MP Wimal Weerawansa.

“I could not betray the SLPP, so I came back” – Premalal

State Minister Premalal Jayasekara has returned to support the SLPP instead of President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the 2024 Presidential Election. Jayasekara stated that he could not betray the SLPP and that the people of his village requested him to rejoin the party. He added that although the party previously did not have a candidate for the election, he returned to support the party because it has presently nominated a candidate for the presidential race.

Will the Eksath Janaraja Peramuna (EJP) support Sajith?

Political sources state that the Eksath Janaraja Peramuna (EJP) has decided to support Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa in the upcoming presidential election. A meeting in this regard was reportedly held with the patronage of the party’s leader Patali Champika Ranawaka, where the working committee of the party arrived at the decision to support Premadasa.

SJB Kalutara District MP Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has pledged his support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the 2024 Presidential Election. They met at the Gangarama Seema Malaka yesterday (13th) and signed an agreement on the matter during the event. Speaking to the media, Senaratne stated that he will work to ensure Wickremesinghe’s victory and added that he cannot be a part of the sin that would destroy the country, and hence will be supporting the president.

Around 1,300 police officers, including officers of the Special Task Force (STF), will be deployed around the Election Commission (EC) and surrounding areas tomorrow (15th) to maintain security and law and order during the presidential election nomination submissions. Police added that 300 traffic police officers will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure order, and that Rajagiriya will be declared a high-security zone. Additionally, the period to place bonds for the presidential election will end today (14th). As of yesterday (13th) 36 candidates had placed bonds for their candidacy in the 2024 Presidential Election.
