What is national security?

Context: In a campaign speech delivered in January 2024, NPP member Major General (Rtd.) Aruna Jayasekera (current deputy minister of defence) criticised the law enforcement officials at the time and stated that they [the NPP] could give tuition to those officials on the topic ‘What is national security?’, and that they should bring a bench along to sit in those tuition classes (https://youtu.be/Y-gslSQp19o?t=141).

Context: Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Sunil Watagala visited the Aluthkade Courts following the shooting of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, where he is said to have referred to his driver as “booruwa (donkey)”. The incident occurred while Watagala was waiting for his vehicle as he was being followed by media personnel who were questioning him on the incident (https://youtu.be/fKIUbXnIzdU?t=966).

Context: The suspect in the shooting of Ganemulla Sanjeewa reportedly gained access to the court using a fake lawyer’s ID. Meanwhile, Ranwala resigned from the office of speaker amidst calls to prove the claim that he possessed a doctorate.
