Commencement of the Mullivaikkal Remembrance Week
Mullivaikkal Remembrance Week commenced on May 12. To mark the occasion, several events were held across the Northern and Eastern Provinces, including the distribution of Mullivaikkal Kanji and events commemorating those who died in the war. All the privately-owned Tamil TV channels monitored (IBC Tamil, Shakthi TV and Dan News) afforded coverage to the events. By contrast, the events were not covered on the state-owned Tamil TV channels and Sinhala TV channels.
