The Divide

EU delegation’s visit to the Chemmani mass grave site

On July 22, a European Union delegation visited the Chemmani mass grave site and was briefed on the progress of the investigation. Relatives of the forcibly disappeared demonstrated outside the site, calling for an international investigation to secure justice. As of July 23, 471 sets of human skeletal remains had been identified at the site. Only privately-owned Tamil TV channels Dan News and Shakthi TV, and state-owned Tamil TV channel Vasantham TV afforded coverage to the visit in their primetime news telecasts.
