International Day for Victims of Enforced Disappearances
On August 30, relatives of missing persons marked the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. In Jaffna, families of the disappeared held an international conference calling for truth, justice and accountability, while commemorations and protests were also held across the North and East. Only privately-owned Tamil TV channels Dan News, IBC Tamil and Shakthi TV, and state-owned Tamil TV channel Vasantham TV afforded coverage to the events.
