This week’s memes
(The memes published by MPA are presented as objects of analysis and documentation. Their inclusion does not imply endorsement of the views or positions expressed within them, but serves to examine how such narratives circulate in the public sphere.)
Meme 1:

Frame 1: We will attack Iran, they have nuclear weapons
Frame 2: Why not attack Russia too while you are at it?
Frame 3: Are you crazy? They have nuclear weapons
Meme 2:

Top: The situation there
Bottom: The situation here
Meme 3:

Friend, no need to post on Facebook saying we helped
Context: An Iranian supporter (Facebook account, “The Gaza”) posted the words “Sri Lanka” on his account as a gesture of praise, following Sri Lanka’s rescue of sailors from the sunken Iranian vessel IRIS Dena. This prompted memes to be shared that, partly in jest, expressed alarm at Sri Lanka being associated with the incident.
Meme 4:

Trump (Top left): Why are you disturbing me? I am in the middle of a war here. Why did you call?
Wickremesinghe (Top right): Forget Iran, not even Sri Lanka’s president takes you seriously. Did you hear? He has saved a bunch of Iranians, and is saying that they are not afraid of anyone.
Trump (Bottom left): Although I launched this war to suppress that Epstein nonsense, it looks as if I will not be able to keep this going. What do you suggest I do?
Wickremesinghe (Bottom right): Oh, do not take those things so seriously. I, too, tried various schemes to suppress the Batalanda incident. Boss, why not impose a sanction on Sri Lanka? Do not let them behave like this.
Meme 5:

Mr. Internasonal Laws
During an interview at the Raisina Dialogue 2026, Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath’s pronunciation of the word “international” (ඉන්ටර්නැෂනල්) as “internasonal” (ඉන්ටර්නැසනල්)—while discussing the IRIS Dena—triggered social media memes and public ridicule.
Meme 6:

Alleviated the stress of war by laughingly responding to questions on the war
Meme 7:

Top: Anura Kumara [Dissanayake]
Bottom: Vijitha Herath
Meme 8:

Layer 1: What happened to the Iranian ship that came this way?
Layer 2: He is asking… Why don’t we tell its going towards India
Meme 9:

Text: My heart aches….!!
Context: This meme compares the public empathy expressed towards the rescue of the Iranian crew and contrasts it with the limited reported public empathy expressed towards the Tamils who were killed during the armed conflict.
Meme 8:

Layer 1: Please don’t turn any missiles toward this side, oh God…
Layer 2: Because every single guy has filled his entire house with petrol, my God…
